Project Manager for the IT Department

The project managers in the IT department play a key role in developing and ensuring modern and business-supporting IT solutions for all of SLU's operations.

About the Job

Currently, 14 employees with specialist competence in project and management, requirements analysis, test management, software asset management, and environmental work are working in the Project Office. As a project manager with us, you will be responsible for leading projects and management objects with a holistic perspective and user focus within the university's various operational areas. This can vary from developing information systems that support national environmental monitoring and animal husbandry to maintaining and improving integrated student systems to ensure a good digital working environment or developing reporting services for species observations within conservation work. Your main task is to lead the work of improving and developing our IT solutions to best meet the needs of the business.

In your role, you will:

  • Be responsible for cost-effective development and management within your projects and objects conducted in collaboration with colleagues and suppliers. You ensure that the solutions are accessible, user-friendly, secure, and comply with applicable laws, regulations, and guidelines.
  • Be responsible for purchasing and license management, as well as public procurement.
  • Be responsible for governance and requirements specification of external/internal IT suppliers.
  • Support the business with the IT perspective in various issues and initiatives.
  • Contribute IT-related requirements during procurements and purchases of IT solutions.
  • Plan, prioritize, and execute activities within the framework of your project or object.
  • Coordinate goals, assignments, and activities with other projects and objects.
  • Calculate, follow up, and report costs for your projects and objects to portfolio and object management.
  • Prepare documentation, such as project plans, feasibility study reports, management plans, and decision materials for changes and initiatives and present these to clients and steering groups.
  • Be responsible for coordination and contract follow-up with external IT suppliers.

We work agile and in a DevOps context. The position is located in Alnarp. Travel is included in the position.

Who are you?

To fit into the role, you need to be a natural leader with the ability to effectively lead projects and business development as well as drive through decisions made. You are clear, pedagogical, and can combine a technical orientation and IT competence with business development and a strategic holistic perspective. You understand the interplay between employees, processes, IT solutions, and regulations and how they together create value. You are attentive, creative, and analytical in your problem-solving. You take overall responsibility, are communicative, and have the ability to collaborate with different functions, both within the IT department and in the business.

To succeed in the position as project manager, you need:

  • a university degree in, for example, computer science, or another technical background or competence that the employer assesses as equivalent.
  • several years of experience in purchasing and license management, as well as public procurement.
  • experience in governance and requirements specification of external/internal IT suppliers.
  • experience in financial follow-up and automation/digitalization.
  • documented experience of delivering system support in roles such as project manager, product manager, management leader, object leader, system administrator, technical coordinator, or equivalent competence.
  • project management training in the PPS project model.

Since all our documentation is in Swedish, you need to speak and write Swedish fluently.

It is meritorious if you have:

  • worked at a university or another government service.
  • a SAFe certification.
  • worked with pm3 or similar management model.
  • experience with Antura.
  • experience with TopDesk or another ticket management system.
  • experience with environmental work.
